Sennheiser MKH 416-P48U3 Shotgun Microphone Overview

The Sennheiser MKH 416-P48U3 is a moisture-resistant shotgun microphone for use to capture high quality audio on professional film recording or TV use. Being a directional microphone, this mic produces sound that is ready to be used with a mixer as it has a strong output as well as low noise. This is also aided by the lack/no need for controls on the mic. At low to midrange frequencies, the 416-P48U3 has a hypercardioid polar pattern and transitions to a lobar pattern in high frequencies, allowing it to attenuate 125 Hz to 2 kHz by approximately 10 dB at the 90° off-axis points. Other qualities in this mic include enhanced consonant articulation, high SPL handling and a wide frequency response. For maximum wind noise reduction, you can use this microphone with a furry windshield.

This mic can be mounted onto a boom pole for use from a distance. You can mount it using the supplied clip or you can alternatively use a shockmount (separately available) to prevent transfer of vibrations to the microphone.

Phantom Powered

MKH 416-P48U3 is compliant with 44 to 52 VDC phantom power and has a 3-pin XLR output, hence, it is compatible with various handheld audio recorders, field recorders, and mixers. It is also compatible with cinema cameras and camcorders with built-in preamps.
